The desire to see and be seen – or just get in on some world-renowned action – draws people into the crowd when the beaches are primed for models, celebrities, and pleasure hungry tourists. The city is packed around winter, from October to March, when the coldest nights are in the low 50s. Special events rouse people in the morning and sing them to sleep at night. Cultural and historical activities are big time bashes, like the Caribbean Carnival and Columbus Day Regatta in October.
Excerpts from “The
Five Steps to Emotional Wisdom”:
This work allows us to delve into the emotional realms in order to understand them at their deep and primal level. It helps us to remove the cultural perception that emotions are a disability while allowing us to see our emotions as a renewed and functional instrument of growth and well-being.
Emotional wisdom is not a metaphysical trophy attained through artificial self or spiritual construction. It is spontaneous being, delicate understanding, and ultimately, an indestructible powerhouse. All emotions serve a purpose. They can keep us healthy or cause the living body to rot. Strong, positive emotional activity is the most potent form of medicine for the sick. Emotionally healthy people receive so much insight from their most destructive passions that they treat them as an indispensable resource, preserving themselves from harm. Many of us know that life can collapse into the terror of a nightmare. What many of us have yet to find out is that life can also offer the beauty of a dream without the illusion of one. We can experience fear without the crippling belief in it.
Working properly, our emotions and feelings create a constant current throughout our bodies. Starting out, let’s take care to note that the words “emotion” and “feeling” are not one in the same. This distinction is essential to our spiritual awakening. Emotions stem from the lower energy centers of consciousness, the physical part of our natures. Emotion is like heavy silt that settles naturally beneath the clear and cleansing waters of feeling. It forms a solid bed along which run our ever-changing feelings. Our feelings are guided by emotions, like a river is guided by its banks, but not held back by them. Where emotions are blind, feelings perceive. Feeling is the warm, sensitive route to the truth. It is the midway point between the condensed, often impenetrable manifestation of emotion and the airy abstraction of intellect. When feelings and emotions are balanced, we experience life without identification. The inverse is also true. When we experience life without identification, our insides fall into harmony. Our fluid natures – feelings, thoughts, insight, etc. – are neither confused with nor controlled by emotions, but are gently channeled by them.
Untamed emotions are in constant upheaval, mixing with our feelings to form a slow, muddy soup. When we begin spiritual practice, which can be compared to the creation of a well plunging into our inner realms, this polluted concoction is what most of us dredge up. The water which is meant to refresh our languishing being is not fit for use and we cannot benefit from all the work we’ve put into digging that spiritual well. Emotions are heavy. They weight us down and attach us to the external world. They cause us to get stuck and identify with illusions, damming up the free flow of feeling which would otherwise move easily around the false impressions, containing them momentarily and then passing them by. Sustained disruption takes a lot of energy. Stirring up heavy emotions with perpetual agitation is exhausting. If emotions are left undisturbed, they take no effort at all. Whether leading us towards laughter or tears, their uninterrupted orientation is more readily understood. Ultimately, their energy can be harnessed for our benefit.
Like the body and mind, our emotions are unruly and a specific type of relationship is required between our inner and outer expressions so that we can live in peace. The same principal applies to training for physical fitness or mental prowess. We treat our bodies and minds like systems designed for growth; why not our emotions? After all, emotional maturity is not guaranteed. If left unformed, our daily response method remains as basic as it was in childhood. We run from pain and chase after pleasure. This often transforms into denying pain and dominating or domesticating pleasure. Emotional wisdom requires us to detach from our emotions, but not to suppress them. Leaving our emotions undisturbed does not mean avoiding unpleasant experiences. The external world cannot disrupt the natural emotional process. Only we can do that. Consciously our unconsciously, while we are old or very young, we learn to self-manipulate. We are distressed or frightened by what our emotions cause us to feel so we reach into the stream and try to twist it around to fit our defensive needs.
Gaining wisdom means starting over. We begin again in our relationship with emotion and feeling. In order to experience them more clearly, we refrain from making judgments and stop privileging certain emotions over others. This may make them more intense because they are no longer muddy and dulled by illusion. Once our internal dams are broken, feelings rush along until they can once again settle into their calm, expressive course.
Excerpts from
articles on automotive parts:
Seen from the outside when you take of the rim, the GMC brake caliper is a large, round piece of cast iron. You will see that it is clamped onto the backing plate, which is attached to the steering hub. When you need to slow or stop your vehicle, this area is the crucial point of contact. The GMC brake caliper is the device that translates the sprawling, liquid hydraulics of the brake system into a question of pure friction.
Protecting the exterior of your GMC truck or SUV shows that you care about your vehicle. This includes washing, waxing, and using a GMC car bra to deflect rocks from the bumper and hood. Most importantly, all of these rewarding tasks should be undertaken with care or you risk doing greater harm to the body and paint job. If you slap the car bra on and then ignore it for a few months or years, peeling it off might give you an awful surprise. GMC car bras come in shapes that are specific to the make and model of your vehicle. They are meant to fit tightly, but over time they will stretch. Loose fitting edges allow dirt to creep in. The underside of the fabric acts just like a giant strip of sand paper scraping across the hood of your vehicle. The dirt and dust scratches the paint and can cause severe pitting. When taken care of, a GMC car bra shields your vehicle from damage. But if it is rippling or flapping in the wind, you can be sure that it is no longer doing its job. Remember to take the GMC car bra off whenever you wash your car. Pay special attention to the covered areas and clean the car bra as well. It’s as easy as using some soapy water or tossing it into the washing machine on a regular cycle. Overall, car bras are a huge benefit to vehicles whose owners really want to take care of them. We have a selection of GMC car bras at competitive prices so nothing keeps you from finding the perfect fit.
The purpose of a GMC performance chip is to boost the power of your engine. There are already electronic devices located throughout your vehicle. This one routes more power where you want it: beneath the hood. Whether you want to tow heavier loads or simply make a monster out of your engine, the GMC performance chip is a small electric device that will modify the muscle of your engine.

Epithelial Tissue
Otherwise known as skin. It is the organ with which we are most familiar, but our relationship with it still tends to be superficial. While the only daily consideration may be for our wash-and-wear exterior, the same tissue also coats all internal body surfaces. Lungs have skin, kidneys have skin, and intestines have skin, or what we can more accurately call endothelium. Like our skin, endothelium is composed of closely packed cells spread out in one or more layers. They may be arranged like shingles on a roof or cobblestone in the street, but their two main purposes remain the same: fortification of the body and distribution of its substances.
As skin, the major role of epithelial tissue is to defend the body from mechanical injury and marauding bacteria. It also forms a dam to hold water where it belongs: inside the body. A tight seal between the cells ensures the epithelial tissue’s protective capacity. Complimenting the absence of intercellular space, there is only a limited amount of intercellular substance where the seal could be compromised. There are other ways in which epithelial tissue shields the body. Manic sterilization will eventually diminish the immune system, but a reasonable amount of cleanliness is a powerful form of protection. The body manages to tidy itself even when personal hygiene is scarce. Ciliated epithelium, for example, aids in the removal of dust particles and other foreign bodies from air passages.
Specialized epithelial cells contain nerve
endings and carry out another function. Exterior stimuli produce sensations
when they collide with the skin, eyes, ears, nose, and tongue and rattle the
receptive nerve endings. Another group of specialized epithelial cells appears
in glands, designed for the selective secretion of enzymes, hormones, and other
chemical substances. The interior lining of the small intestines not only
secretes digestive enzymes, but absorbs the nutrients released from food as it
disintegrates nearby. Bodily waste products are excreted by the epithelial
tissue of the kidneys while helpful materials are simultaneously reabsorbed
from the urine. There is another well-known form of excretion that is integral
to detoxification and staying cool.* Perspiration, of course, is an essential
means of purification and heat regulation.

Blame Body Odor on Bacteria |
|
The body produces two kinds of sweat, eccrine and apocrine, and neither of them smells bad. Bacteria on our skin, however, break down the apocrine and set off a perpetual stink bomb that varies in intensity from person to person. |
Similar to excretion, diffusion is the
disbursement of gases, liquids, and nutrients through the very thin layer of simple
epithelium. This accounts for the displacement of oxygen through the lungs and
the walls of capillaries. Blood vessels, though, require additional aid from
epithelium. The cells lining the entire circulatory system are smooth and
interlocking. They keep friction to a minimum as blood rushes through the
veins.
